Imagine that you are preparing a project with your friend. You have found some interesting material for the presentation and you want to read this text to your friend. You have 1.5 minutes to read the text silently, then be ready to read it out aloud. You will not have more than 1.5 minutes to read it.
Many countries around the world were sending oxygen to India. This was
because of India’s COVID-19 crisis. India was then the world’s second
most populous country, with over 1.3 billion people. It was vigorously
struggling to cope with its latest surge in the coronavirus pandemic. There
were over 300,000 new cases every day — the largest number of daily cases
ever experienced by any country. India’s health system could no longer
cope. There were not enough beds, and hospitals were turning away
people with the virus. They had also run out of oxygen. Singapore and the
UK sent much-needed oxygen cylinders to India. India’s government had
also arranged for Amazon to deliver 100 ventilators. We have all witnessed
in the past years how this pandemic is a trans-boundary threat. It gives
no regard for country, nationality, or race. The WHO said the situation in
India was “beyond heartbreaking”.
