Why we're smarter than chickens
Professors in the University of Toronto have uncovered how a small change in a protein can push the creation of neurons, cells that make the brain, that could have stimulated the evolution of brains of mammals to become the largest and most complex among animals. Brain size and complexity vary enormously across many animals, but it is not clear A __________. The key lays in the process that Toronto group studies, known as alternative splicing, whereby gene products are assembled into proteins, С _________. What’s more, chicken cells were engineered to make the shorter, mammalian-like, protein, this triggered alternative splicing events that are found in mammals.
